My Sassy Girl vs. My Sassy Girl

Couple nights ago I was at my local Blockbuster to rent BOLT. I was looking around and one of my neighbors was there and she was holding My Sassy Girl (the remake).  I asked her if she ever watched the original version. She didn’t realize there was one, so I offered to share my DVD with her.

My neighbor comes over to the return my DVD. She was very impressed. She has never watched a Korean movie before. She even agreed with me that the original version is 100 times better than the remake. This weekend she’ll be watching A Moment to Remember (she’ll cry on this one) and Sex is Zero.

Anyways, back to the movie comparison. The U.S. remake starred Elisha Cuthbert (Jack Bauer’s daughter for those who are into 24) and Jesse Bradford. They made some changes to the original script, but they should’ve kept it the same. I thought Jesse Bradford played his part well.

In the original movie starring Jeon Ji-Hyeon and Cha Tae-Hyeon, the chemistry between the two were great which the remake lack. No wonder the remake bombed out in test runs overseas and straight release to DVD.

I’m pretty sure 99 out of 100 people who have watched both versions will agree with me the remake was not up to par. I’m trying to be nice here.
