Are you guys ready for Ninja Assassin, starring Rain? Just looking at the movie trailer, it looks pretty good. I’m sure Rain has worked very hard for this film since he is the main star. Will Rain be the next Asian celebrity to make it big in Hollywood? Hollywood is a tough market and only time will tell. I guess it all depends on movie ticket sells!

You can assure that our staffs will be watching Ninja Assassin on opening night!

Our staff members here at Sojutime decided to go watch GI JOE to support Lee Byeong-Heon role as Storm Shadow. In a Korean TV interviews, he commented that his experience making the movie was tremendous. There was a lot of hard work and he enjoyed playing his character. He wished he appeared more throughout the movie, but he was pretty satisfied with his performance. He worked long and hard practicing the fight scenes and the use of the sword.

After the watching the movie, we thought Lee Byeong-Heon did an excellent job playing Shadow Storm. Even his English was pretty good. We hope to see more Korean and other Asian celebrities in Hollywood.

There’s few drama series that I can’t wait to watch. Here are my lists:

Queen of Wives
Cinderellaman
Cain and Abel
Iron Empress

I usually pick up the DVD set when they come out. I like to watch it on a large screen. Cain and Abel is currently showing on DirecTV (SBS).

But I do like to thank the folks who put up the links for us to watch the drama online. I try to do my part in supporting the Korean media industry by buying the DVD sets or renting DVDs.

Watched “Knowing”

Earlier today, I went to go watch Knowing starring Nicolas Cage. Overall, I thought the movie was good. I wouldn’t give it a A rating, but at least B-. Those of you who don’t know, Nicolas is married to a Korean. In the movie, Nicolas does the sign language with his son (who’s not really deaf). When I saw that, it hit me.

In the Korean drama, East of Eden, the boy does the same sign language with his father. It’s a wild hunch, but I think Nicolas Cage got the ideal from East of Eden. Either his wife told him or he probable saw it with his wife.

East of Eden was a popular drama series and the sign language was like a hit. Well, like I said, it’s just wild hunch so don’t quote me on it.

How do you watch Korean TV Series?

Do you watch Korean TV series online? Download all day and watch it at night? Do you have a satellite service or rent the titles?

I used to download and watch them online when I first started watching Korean movies and TV drama. As a movie buff, I like to watch it on large screens with quality sounds. With Korean dramas and movies, English subtitles are a must. I started buying DVD’s and it was getting expensive. For the past couple years, I’ve been renting DVD’s online.

I also have Directv with the Korean language pack. It’s not bad. Only some of the TV series have English subtitles. The newer ones don’t, so it’s hard to understand. I’ve tried Dishnetwork with the free KBS channel, but not many varieties of programs.

If you have the time and don’t care about quality, stick with online and search the web. If you prefer quality, stick with DVD’s.

First Taste – Ostrich Burger

Over the weekend, I attended a Ostrich Festival. I’ve always wonder what an ostrich burger would taste like. Well, it almost tasted like a burger, but I thought it was a bit dry. At least I can tell the world that I have tried it.

I really thought the Ostrich Festival was small, so I would pass up on it every year. My main reason going there was to take my almost 3-year old son to watch demolition derby at the festival.

Overall, the festival was great. You had live music, carnival rides, lots of vendors, kid activities and etc. They even had a stunt biker team doing wheelies, endo and other tricks. I use to ride a Yamaha R6 few years ago.

Anyways, if you never tried an ostrich burger, go try one. It won’t kill you, but nothing beats a tasty juicy cheeseburger!

My First Korean Drama

Wow…what was my first Korean TV drama? I think it was back in 2003 and the drama was called “All In”. Since I like cards and action flicks, I thought I give this drama a try. At first I started to download the episodes off the web. After watching a few episodes, it was getting really interesting. I could not wait for all the downloads (plus some downloads were messed up if you know what I mean), so I drove to K-town in Los Angeles and bought the DVD set. I spent all night and all early morning hours watching it!

No wonder when people say you’ll get hooked on Korean TV drama, I thought that was just BS. Doh! I am so wrong. I am now hooked on Korean TV drama series!
